The Museum of the Common Memory Tunisian - Algerian in Ghardimaou was created by a presidential project. In a speech delivered by Mr. President of the Republic Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, Supreme commander of Armed forces during the official speech pronounced in the occasion of his visit to Algeria in February 11th, 2002 and in which he declared what follows " I would like to seize this happy occasion which offers me my meeting with a brother dear to my heart, On the generous ground of fighting Algeria, to announce my decision to make of the former headquarters of the command of Algerian Armed revolution in the Tunisian city of Ghardimaou, a museum of the common memory of our two peoples so that it remains, for ever, the best testimony of the brotherhood Tunisian - Algerian ".
This museum is implanted in the buildings which sheltered the headquarters of the Algerian Revolution during the War of liberation (1954-1962). It is opened to the public every day from 09h.00 to 16h.00 except Monday and official holidays
The museographic exhibition includes documents, photographs, maps, weapons and audio-visual aids relating to:
• The geopolitical situation of the Maghreb countries at the end of the year 1954. • Various stages of the revolution. • Birth of the General Major State • Daily life of the political and military command. • Military and social political support of Tunisia for the Algerian Revolution from 1954 to 1962. • Use of the Tunisian territory like base camp for the Army and the Face of National Release. • Virtual visit of the various components of the museum.
