Laboratory Presentation The Metrology laboratory of the Air Force «PMEL» has been created in November 1985. Its various works in the field of metrology gave it credentials to be recognized by the American Center of Metrology (AFMETCAL) since 1989 in the Electricity, Physics and Dimensional fields and being accredited by the French Comity of Accreditation (COFRAC) since the year 2000 as far as the field « Electricity–Magnetism» is concerned. The services supplied by the laboratory Laboratory activities Besides its calibration activities of measure instruments to the military, the laboratory PMEL takes its place within the framework of supportive institutions to the Tunisian industry by letting the companies and the civilian establishments take advantage of services which meet international standards obligations NF EN ISO/CEI 17025 and allow them to access to certifications ISO 9000. The laboratory carries out services of calibration for over 140 companies and both public and private establishments. The principle of calibration consists of undertaking a number of measures so as to verify the accuracy and precision of clients equipments notices, thus measures are carried out through standardized equipments belonging to the laboratory which provides a greater stability and a better precision. These standards are periodically connected to a French laboratory recognized by the COFRAC. The laboratory delivers later on to the client a calibration certificate of recognized worldwide which explains the drifts and the incertitudes of its equipment measures. The database supplied by the calibration certificate helps the client insert corrective terms into the measures carried out with the calibrated equipments and to set the calibration periodicity of its equipments according to the importance of its drifts. Any person or company wishing to calibrate its equipments at the laboratory PMEL should send an application to the Minister of the National Defense at the following address: - Ministère de la Défense Nationale
Bab M'nara 1008 Tunis Tunisie This application should contain information’s on the company and the equipments to be calibrated. When the response is favorable, an agreement will be signed by the two sides. The bill for the supplied services by the laboratory PMEL is strictly calculated on the base of the ratio man/hour, it is actually about 53 dinars (2005) the unit with an increase of 3 % every year. delays The companies and establishments, having signed agreements with the Ministry of the National Defense, will communicate to the Military Staff of the Air Force fifteen (15) days before each operation a detailed list of the equipments to be calibrated. The Air Force Military Staff will give a favorable opinion to this operation according to the nature and the field of equipments measures as well as the availability of the laboratory PMEL.
