Created in 1980 within the General Directorate of Communications and Information Technologies the DEFNAT laboratory is an Armed Forces facility attached to the Tunisian Ministry of Defense. Its metrology activities allowed it to be recognized by the French National Bureau of Metrology (BNM FRANCE) since 1981, then, in 1994, was accredited by the French Accreditation Committee (COFRAC) in the Electricity and Magnetism and Time and frequency field. The Laboratory “DEFNAT” was also accredited in 2008 in the Electricity and Magnetism and Time and frequency fields by the Tunisian National Accreditation Council (TUNAC). The DEFNAT laboratory was designated in 2011 by the National Metrology Agency (ANM) to maintain and preserve national standards, within its scopes.
Besides its calibration of the Tunisian armed forces equipments, The DEFNAT laboratory supports and assists the Tunisian industry in the metrology fields within its scopes according to the international standard EN ISO / IEC 17025.
In fact, this calibration process consists of carrying out a number of measurements to check the precision and the accuracy of customer’s equipments according to an approved calibration procedures using certified standards.
The laboratory of metrology “DEFNAT” is up to organize training sessions in the field of metrology, on request, to different metrology institutions’ personnel, thereby providing participants with training certificate.
Any person or company interested in calibrating its equipment and / or to receive training by the " DEFNAT" laboratory have to send a formal request to the Minister of Defense to the following address :
Ministry of National Defense - Bab Mnara 1008 - Tunis - TUNISIA.
The request must obligatory contain information about the company, the list of the equipments to be calibrated and/or the type of training desired.
Once the response from the minister of defense is favorable, an agreement will be signed by both parties (Ministry of Defense/company).
For the companies benefitted with a valid agreement with the Ministry of Defense could dispatch to the Metrology Laboratory "DEFNAT" of the Directorate of Communications and Information Technologies a detailed list of equipment to be calibrated and/or training desired request fifteen days before proceeding, thus, the administration of the laboratory DEFNAT will assess that demand and give its clients a pertinent answer.
